We are very lucky in rural Texas to have such a beautiful variety of native wildflowers every Spring. Their color and texture delight me,I find endless pleasure in these pieces of work are my response to what I see, smell and hear in the pasture every Spring. Depending on rainfall our wild flowers can bloom from March all the way through July. Bluebonnets are the first to bloom, followed by Gallairdia, Beebalm, Wine Cup and Indian Paintbrush.They are vivid and contrasting, and always set against the backdrop of an intense blue sky- such fodder for inspiration.

A variety of sizes and substrates, these pieces are an immediate interpretive response on heavy paper mostly 10” x 8”, and then some more studied composition on stretched canvas or large size heavy paper. I wanted to maintain the spontaneity of the smaller ones on a larger canvas, keeping brushstrokes light and free. I stylised compositions with pencil, ink and pastels. I was able to use old music manuscript and stencilled papers with gold grounds on some pieces too. Some are more stylised using old sewing patterns as grounds, some more immediate and painterly.
