We have a murder of Crows here at the farm, we built them a feeding table and after just 6 months they now demand their daily breakfast and complain loudly if we are late.
They are our guard dogs, our weather vanes and our look-outs. They are confident and comfortable with us. Crows are steeped in magic and folklore, spell - making birds of the Druids, story tellers for the Vikings, and of course companions to all Witchcraft. Crows mate for life, they will find a new mate if they are bereaved for survival’s sake. They are very intelligent and have memories, they recognize faces and remember kindness and cruelty.
My studies of them are a range of spontaneous pencil and ink sketches and color renditions. From these sketches I develop more composed mixed media pieces on canvas or paper.
I use collaged printed papers, some stencilled and gold to build up compositions with acrylic paint and inks, Indian ink, conte, oil pastel and charcoal.
